Finding Swells

Looking to the ocean for waves to surf

So why is this blog named Swell?

When a surfer paddles out from the shore on his board, he joins the lineup in the water with his fellow surfers looking to catch a wave. Then, he looks out to the horizon to find swelling water that will eventually transform into a wave he can surf.

It’s a similar situation for entrepreneurs looking into the future to try to find a wave they can ride.

I’m still a novice surfer. A few years ago, a pro surfer wisely told me that surfing is 50% reading the ocean and 50% balance on your board. At the time, I thought this was an exaggeration. I was wrong. The ability to read the ocean is essential to catching waves, both for surfers and entrepreneurs. Timing is everything.

In many ways, this blog is about learning to find swells.

Swell happened to be the very first word that popped into mind when trying to find a theme or name for this blog. Happily, I think it also matches my positive outlook on the world.

So, ready to catch some waves together?
