After years of assiduous and voracious reading of everyone else’s blogs, I’ve finally decided that it was time to claim my little piece of the web and start sharing back with the universe!
I’ll be writing short essays on a variety of topics, most notably entrepreneurship, travel, design, Montreal and the future. You can also expect musings on food, photography, climate change, art, psychology, nature, music, business and more.
Someone once told me the best blogs are sharply focused on a single topic. Unfortunately, that’s not going to be possible here! :) While I recognize the value of curation, I’ve just been passionately curious about too many things for too long to focus now on only a very narrow slice. I’ve learned to live with many different drawers in my mind, and hopefully you the reader will accept my penchant for variety.
People
I will simply be sharing with you interesting stories about interesting people I come across in my life who are working passionately on interesting projects. I’m fascinated with people seeking to make the world a better place. It’s hard work to create change when status-quo can be so convenient.
I’ll be doing most of the writing, but I’ll also include from time to time short interviews with friends. My hope is that these essays and interviews can contribute in a small way to our larger conversation about the future.
Roman Holiday
Upon writing this, I’m currently in Rome on holiday. I’ve decided this would be the perfect moment to start writing. It’s been exciting for the last few days to skip out of the hustle bustle of the city, hike up the Spanish steps and find refuge under a large pine tree in Villa Borghese for a few hours to reflect and write.
Indeed, what better place to look ahead to the future than in one of the most ancient civilizations? From the ruins of the Roman forum, it’s interesting to witness how so much has changed with technology over the centuries, yet how society is still based on many of the same institutions as in the ancient times — art, commerce, politics, etc.
Back to Montreal
I’ll be blogging mostly from Montreal. I’m certain I’ll find an equally great tree in Parc Jeanne-Mance to write under this summer!
After almost a decade of travel around the world (my family might say nomadism), I’ve moved back recently to my hometown and have grown deeply attached to my city. Its people. Its distinctive social makeup. Its four vastly different seasons. Its massively above-quota amount of creativity and energy. More than ever, I care about its vitality and hope to contribute to it however I can.
That said, I’m still eager to roam the world and I’ll be happy to share with you tales about the best of what’s happening internationally.
Of course, I’ll also be looking to hear from you out there! Sharing is far more fun with friends. So what inspires you? What’s the coolest thing you’ve seen recently? What matters now?
